Social Media & Admissions

Social Media increasingly can play a role in the admissions process according to the article “They Loved Your G.P.A. Then They Saw Your Tweets” published by the New York Times.

The article explains that “of 381 college admissions officers who answered a Kaplan telephone questionnaire this year, 31 percent said they had visited an applicant’s Facebook or other personal social media page to learn more about them— a five-percentage-point increase from last year. ” While most schools don’t have formal policies about social media yet, all students should make sure to use an appropriate email address for the entire college admission process including communication with coaches. Read the article here to find out how different schools vary in the way they handle social media’s effect on admission decisions.
