Sophomores – What To Do in March
Parents, now that your student has been in high school for a year and a half, you have an idea about what kind of student she/he is. You may even have PSAT or PLAN results. (Of course, assuming they bothered to show you.) This is an appropriate time to start talking about location, type of school, and finances. Traditionally, the financial discussion comes late in the process, but there are many ways to reduce cost of college if you start planning early. (Attend our March workshop to learn more.)
A great resource for beginning the college search is the College Board web-site. College Board is the company that issues the SAT and AP tests, so you or your student will be visiting this site frequently over the next couple of years. On the main page, you will see a search box. Type in the name of a college and you can find a wealth of information about costs, available majors, size, selectivity, and sports programs.
