Q & A January 2011

Q. I hear the SAT Subject Tests are no longer required for 2012 grads? Any insights?

A. It is true that the UC schools no longer require SAT subject tests for admission. However, at the UC Counselor Conference last September, the UC admissions officers strongly recommended taking the tests as they can (and will) be used as part of the holistic application review.

Q. When is the best time to start the college planning process?

A. This is our number 1 FAQ! We actually have two answers. If your child is an athlete, it really makes sense to start the process by the end of sophomore year. Athletes should start contacting coaches at the beginning of the junior year and it is important to start investigating potential schools of interest before that time. For non-athletes, junior year is appropriate. Spring break is a great time to visit schools, and again, it is a good idea to do some self analysis and some purposeful research before you decide where you want to visit.
