Katelyn Van Andel at the
University of California Berkeley!
We asked some of our former students to report back about their college experience so far. Katelyn is our highlight for March! Here's what she has to say about her campus.

What do you like about Berkeley?
"One of my favorite things about Cal is the down-to-earth and supportive student body. I've met so many kind, friendly people since coming here and the large student body allows you to diversify your surroundings and constantly meet new people. Another one of my favorite things about Cal is the nature on campus! Creeks, redwood trees, and grassy patches flourish between historic buildings and gorgeous libraries. Every day I feel like I'm strolling through a forest on my way to class!."

What is something that surprised you about Berkeley?
"Something that surprised me about college is the amount of free I have! I'm only in class for about three hours a day, leaving the rest of the day up to my discretion. Since coming here, I've had more control over my sleep schedule, meal times, and study sessions. Compared to high school, where my free time was essentially limited to 4pm - 10pm, college day-to-day life has been awesome!"

What did UniVarsity Help You With?
"UniVarsity's convenient and organized college research database was so helpful when deciding on (and narrowing down) a college list. I loved being able to access student body statistics, concise but unique descriptions, and a list of related schools in one place. It helped me distinguish my choices from each other and form an accurate impression of schools I was interested in."

What are you studying/involved in?
"I'm an intended Environmental Economics & Policy major, but I'm considering switching or double majoring in History. Cal's academic advisors are super accessible despite the large student body, so it's been really easy for me to reach out and get advice on my academic path. I've gotten involved in a few clubs such as the Cal Hiking and Outdoors Society and the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive Student Committee. I'm also planning on joining Cal Women's Rugby!"

Fun fact you’ve learned about Berkeley?
"One fun thing I've learned about Cal (as a history nerd) is that we have the largest collection of papyrus texts in the Americas! In our very own Bancroft Library!"

Doing Anything Fun on the Weekends?
"There's a lot of fun things to do around Berkeley on the weekend! Football games, local movie screenings, club events, and yummy local cuisine are at the center of Berkeley's weekend scene. There's something here for everyone, and there's always something going on."
